Baguio City, Philippines – May 3, 2025 — Students and faculty from the University of the Cordilleras College of Nursing actively participated in the 24th Regional Nursing Research Congress, held at the Maryheights Multipurpose Hall, Bakakeng Campus. With the theme “From Ideas to Impact: Disseminating Innovative Trends Across Borders,” the event highlighted the importance of research dissemination in advancing healthcare practice and outcomes.
Faculty members Mr. Gilbert D. Bernardino and Ms. Phoebe Toyokan accompanied the student researchers, with Ms. Toyokan also presenting her own study titled “Experiences of Grassroots Health Workers in Itogon: A Deep Dive into Community Service.”
Showcasing the diverse interests and academic rigor of UC student researchers, the following studies were presented:
- Pilien, Bill Gerry P. & Burgos, Jade Alvis Q. – Primary Healthcare Workers’ Mental Health Literacy in Itogon, Benguet
- Allysa Mae U. Higoy & Arjay C. Gallardo – Parenting a Child with Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Qualitative Inquiry
- Bagaoisan, Bea Faith & Maon, Gian Patrick – Level of Preparedness of LGU and Primary Healthcare Workers in Emergency Disaster Response in La Trinidad
- Hiedelberg A. Dumyong & Rose Jane Apse – The Enigmatic Phenomenon: Unraveling the Cryptic Pregnancy of Sapphire
- Annie Grail Addog & Kyla Gonzales – Lived Experiences of Male Student Nurses in Their Clinical Duties in the Maternity Ward and Delivery Room
- Raniah May Puzon – Lived Experiences of Health Workers in Correctional Facilities
Also present were UC College of Nursing students Bernard Longboan, Sean Dale Manaloto, and Jaimee Javillonar, who contributed to the delegation’s active participation.
Keynote speaker Dr. Mark Job Bascos emphasized the role of dissemination in creating real-world impact. “The impact of research is not palpable when dissemination is scarce,” he remarked, while encouraging participants to share their findings through appropriate platforms. He also discussed the link between economic productivity and research output, reviewed the IMRAD format, and warned against predatory journals, sharing useful online tools to support responsible publishing.
The event ran from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM and served as an engaging platform for future nurses to share knowledge, develop critical inquiry, and strengthen their role as compassionate, evidence-informed healthcare professionals.
