UC CONAHS Holds Emergency and Disaster Skills Olympic During Communidad 2026

The University of the Cordilleras College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences (UC CONAHS) successfully conducted the Emergency and Disaster Skills Olympics during Day 3 of Communidad 2026 held on April 29, 2026, at the UC Gymnasium. The activity showcased the students’ teamwork, resilience, preparedness, and lifesaving competencies in responding to simulated emergency and disaster situations.

Facilitated by faculty members together with Mr. Lester June Chumacog and hosted by Ms. Eunice Tanya Bayang and Mr. Denrick Garcia, the activity emphasized the importance of rapid response, collaboration, and practical nursing skills essential in emergency and disaster care. Students actively participated in a series of challenging tasks designed to strengthen both technical competencies and teamwork under pressure.

The participating teams competed in various emergency response activities including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), bandaging, splinting, carrying a patient, crawling, trust walk, and the proper use of a spine board. Through these activities, students demonstrated their ability to apply theoretical knowledge into practical and coordinated emergency response interventions.

Serving as judges during the competition were Mr. Aristotle R. Carbonell, JO1 Crimson Jay T. Simon, RN, and Ms. Julia Pacuran, RN, who evaluated the participants based on proper execution of procedures, teamwork, accuracy, and overall performance. Their expertise and guidance contributed to the success of the activity and reinforced the value of competence and preparedness among future healthcare professionals.

The Emergency and Disaster Skills Olympics strengthened the practical competencies of nursing students in disaster and emergency nursing while fostering leadership, collaboration, and confidence in handling critical situations. The activity also reflected UC CONAHS’ commitment to producing healthcare professionals who are responsive, skilled, and community-oriented.
